NEWSLETTER FOR SCHULTZ FAMILY
JAN/FEB
January 25, 2009
Hope this finds everyone doing well out there!! Sorry it’s taken me so long to get this done, but it has just been crazy around here. Plus, being so busy with working and such it’s hard to think about sitting down for a couple of hours to get this letter done!! Also, Shane and I have added Face book and a blog, so I’ve been on there a lot lately trying to figure out High School reunion plans and getting the blog all set-up. Fun times!! Mom mentioned to me that now she’s on the computer a lot cuz she got on Face book too and then reading all the blogs the family has out there!! It’s a rough life….
Well, the month of January is about over, Superbowl is almost here. Go Cardinals!!! I’m pretty excited for them to finally have made it!! We lived in Phoenix when they hosted the Superbowl back in the day. It was a very exciting time around there. Of course, they held it at the college stadium cuz the Cardinals didn’t have their own stadium back then. Now, they have a state-of-the-art stadium that I would LOVE to go see a game at. I watched a show on it years ago about how the field actually slides underground (under the parking lot) to protect it!! Sounds very cool.
We had an awesome visit with Shane while he was home on his month-long break!! He broke his foot (in case some of you didn’t know) so he got an extended 2 week break. He got real bored and probably should have exercised more, but all in all he said it was good to be home with us. He’s back at it now, in Missouri, and is released to full duty too. He didn’t have to have surgery then on his foot. They took an x-ray and it showed a large calcium growth on the bone so they said he should be just fine. Shane told me yesterday they actually gave him a choice of surgery or not, but since it looked good, he opted not to do the surgery. His company graduated on Wednesday, without him, but he is still staying positive about everything. The next company that is there is in week 3, so he will hang out with them until they reach week 7 where Shane left off and then he will join them. If all goes as planned he will graduated in May from both Basic and AIT. He still doesn’t think he will be home for Tyler’s graduation (May 23rd). We are wishing him luck!!!
Tyler is doing well. We had a nice chat the other day while I ate my lunch at work!! He has been fighting with us about the whole Army thing. He stopped going to drills, etc and I finally got the chance to find out what the deal is. He says he really isn’t interested in that lifestyle and has decided he does not want to be a part of it anymore. He is 18 and I cannot force him to do this if he doesn’t want it. All I can do is be supportive and encourage him to do the right thing. He is a great kid and hasn’t given us any major problems, so really I can’t complain. He’s very excited about going to UNM next fall and will be sharing an apartment with his friend Thomas. Thomas’ sister is going to go study in Germany, so her apartment is open for the boys to take. Tyler’s girlfriend, Emily, is going to be living in the dorms. Their plan at first was to get a place together, but I kinda had a feeling her parents may not go for it. Not saying I was too thrilled about it, but I know they are being safe and say they have “future plans” together. Ahhh….young love……Tyler just participated in the Topper Revue again at the High School this year. It’s basically a talent show. You have to audition to be in it. Tyler and his friend Thomas played their guitars, another friend played guitar, then Christian on drums and Matt sang (or screamed, I guess). The band did an Arch Enemy song and it was REALLY good!!! Tyler was up there rocking it!!! I went to it last night (it was closing night) and there sure are some talented kids at the school!! He did an awesome job!! Forgot my camera of course!!
Kalyn is doing very well also. She has been working at Home Run Pizza for a year now!! She is looking for another job, however, so hopefully she finds something good. She was having migraine headaches this week!! She has never had a migraine before so I got concerned after day 3!!! I called the doctor cuz we started her on a new prescription and come to find out, it was the prescription, so we immediately stopped that and she is much better!! Unfortunately this prescription is something she is going to need to take in her life, so the doctor said she will always have migraines when taking this. She had a physical during December and had a nice chat with the doctor about eating right and exercising. We are trying to get her motivated to get moving on that. She’s been driving more and more and boy she is a great driver!!! I’m really excited that she’s so safe behind the wheel. She’s always telling me about her friend Jennifer and how crazy of a driver she is. I told her to be careful when riding with her then!!!! She had a good birthday. She did not want a party, so on Christmas when we all went to Gram/Gramps house, I had made a cake and we sang and gave gifts to her. We got her money and mostly that’s what she got from everyone. Kalyn is going to San Diego in early March for choir so she’s looking forward to that.
As for myself, I’m doing well. I celebrated working one year at the fitness center on Jan 10th!! Time sure flies!! The bank is doing really well with the economy and we finally got our Xmas bonus in January! We didn’t think we were getting ANYTHING, I was a bit down about that too, but we did get a little something. Our bank is expecting no growth for 2009, so anything above that will be good. We are down to 4 employees in the branch now. Kathleen mostly works in Santa Fe, but comes up for appointments if we need her too. We have Dave as a teller and then we got Christine back just this past week!! She graduated from UNM and moved back to LA and was looking for a job and we had just let our other teller, Shannen, go so we had an opening!! This has to be one of the strongest crews we have had in a while. Christine keeps us laughing and keeps Dave red in the face of embarrassment!! She doesn’t hold back at all!! Lesley is the branch manager and then me!! Small, but we all get along (for the most part) just fine. It could be much worse, I guess. Other than that, I’ve just been doing my usual cleanings here and there, working at the gym, working out at the gym, hanging out at home (once in a while to do laundry and dishes) and when I have time, go out on the town with Kevin. We have had a couple of late nights down at Buffalo Thunder Casino. I am always “designated driver” and I just sit and watch Kev play roulette!! Sometimes until 3 am, but that’s ok!!! Hahahaha
I was checking out our electric bill for December and realized it may be a bit high??!! It was almost $300!!!! I showed it to Shane to see if he could figure anything out and he was like “it looks like the added our gas usage twice on here”…..so I called the county the next day, come to find out, they have been charging us double EVERY month since we moved our house here!!! So, in the end, we got a $300 credit and didn’t have to pay our bill for December!! My friend, Alicia, works over there so I just called her up and she got it all figured out for us. So, in the summer months, the way our trailer sits now, it is much cooler and we don’t use the swamp cooler as much and our bill would have been about $50 cheaper than what we thought. Very nice surprise!!! We’ve had quite a bit of snow this year (about 15-16 inches already- but that’s about ½ of what we get total) and the back side of our house has snow piled up just under the windows still cuz it stays so cold on that side!! Plus, our house sits lower than it did at the other place so I’m just concerned with more snow we will be buried on that side!! Kinda funny.
We would like to thank everyone for all the great Christmas photos, cards and gifts you all sent to us for the holidays. We really enjoy that time of year and it makes it more special to hear from everyone. We had a great time over at Diana and Tj’s celebrating with everyone and laughing and eating. It’s always wonderful!! You all take care, enjoy 2009 and keep in touch!!!

Hey Toots...thanks for the news. What does the Army have to say about Tyler changing his mind? Hard to believe that your kids are as old as they are, as I still think of you as my little baby niece. Love you!
ReplyDeleteuhhh...not too sure on that one. I'm letting him deal with his stuff. Unfortunately I know nothing. Tyler says they can't do anything cuz he's still in high school. don't know..... :( Love ya too!!
